Washington Township Completes First Leg of Walking Path at Martha Hitler Park

The Pickaway County Park District is proud to share that Washington Township has successfully completed the first leg of the walking path around Martha Hitler Park. This project was made possible through a $40,000 grant awarded by the District’s Park and Trail Improvement Grant program. Washington Township’s dedication to enhancing community spaces is a perfect example of how these funds can make a real difference.

Since 2015, the Pickaway County Park District has awarded over $520,000 to support 66 local park and trail projects here in Pickaway County. These grants are a part of our ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for residents across the county. In November 2017, the citizens of Pickaway County approved a 10-year levy to support the Park District’s operations, with a focus on increasing and improving parks and trails throughout the county.

As part of our continued efforts to fulfill the promises made during the levy campaign, the Park District has set aside $75,000 of its 2024 appropriations for the 10th round of Park and Trail Community Grants. This year, we’re excited to expand the grant program to include new options:

  1. Park Master Plan Grant: $12,500 will be dedicated to the creation of local park master plans.
  2. Park and Trail Improvement Grant: $12,500 will be dedicated to park and trail improvement projects.
  3. Master Plan Improvement Project Grant: Applicants who have completed a Master Plan Project with the District are eligible for up to $50,000 to complete a project within the scope of the park’s master plan.

Applicants can submit for both the Master Plan Grant and the Park Improvement Grant within the same cycle, or choose to submit an application for a Master Plan Improvement Project. If submitting for both, applicants must identify their priority project.

We’re excited to see how this expanded grant program will continue to shape our communities. The District will be releasing the 2025 Grant applications this fall and running the For more details, please refer to our website grant page.

Thank you to Washington Township for your hard work and commitment to improving our parks, and to all our communities who continue to make Pickaway County a great place to live, work, and play!
